A bustling Derbyshire village popular with everyone from fans of outdoor activity breaks to literature and history buffs. Walk the Charlotte Brontë Literature trail, taking in North Lees Manor featured in Jane Eyre and visit the oversized grave of Robin Hood’s sidekick, Little John.
YHA Hathersage is only 700 metres from the station on the Manchester to Sheffield train line. It is a great destination if you enjoy walking, hiking and climbing. Climb the hill towards Stanage Edge and see the Surprise View or visit nearby Eyam, the Plague Village.
Catch a bus to Castleton to visit the Peak Cavern, a Norman Castle keep, three mines - one of which is flooded and involves a boat trip - and see Mam Tor, the Shivering Mountain. Buses also run to Bakewell and Sheffield.
