Hostel-based Tourism & Business Placement - YHA Berwick
If you are an overseas student of tourism, hospitality or business, and you are looking for somewhere to enhance your employ-ability and English language skills, then this could be for you. We offer bespoke placements that will require you to improve and practice your spoken English, working very closely with a range of customers and colleagues. The tasks involved will be in every area of hostel life - so that will include serving in the cafe, working with a residential school group, food preparation, cleaning and servicing rooms, welcoming and checking in guests... Placements ideally last at least four weeks to enable people to fully experience life in the (North of) England, but longer placements will be considered.
Volunteers will be accommodated free in the staff house, in a private, en-suite room. Meals can be provided at a discount, and you'll have a good amount of time off to explore Northumbria - its coast and castles, history and culture. We're also only 40 minutes away (by train) from Edinburgh - one of the greatest World Heritage Capital Cities!
Please note that all hostel placements are on a voluntary (unpaid) basis and we do not enter into a contractual agreement with individuals or placing organisations. We recommend you purchase travel and medical insurance and you need the Right to Work in the UK.
When you register your interest in this event, a member of staff from the hostel will be in touch to discuss your application. If you have not heard within 14 days please email [email protected] for assistance or call 01289 304518
Code of Conduct

YHA and Safeguarding

A lovely hostel in a fascinating historic city. The excellent staff looked after us volunteers very well -- our tasks, materials and tools were organised and managed, we were fed and watered generously, and we were made to feel welcome and part of the family. Many thanks to all. Special mention of Raven -- "the more she runs, the more she looks like a table."
